Surah 58 · 22 verses

Al-Mujadila

The Pleading Woman

Al-Mujadilah begins with a woman's complaint being heard by Allah, then challenges a harmful marital declaration and sets out repair through expiation. Divine knowledge extends to every confidential conversation, so secrecy must serve righteousness rather than wrongdoing or intimidation. The chapter teaches considerate conduct in assemblies and reflects on access to the messenger. Its later verses expose false oaths, obstructive alliances, and forgetfulness of Allah. Genuine allegiance is located in hearts strengthened by faith, rather than family pressure or outward professions.

Faith beyond family pressure

58:20–22

Opposition to Allah and His messenger is distinguished from genuine faith, even where close family bonds intensify the test. Hearts grounded in faith receive strengthening and a promised welcome. Success is pictured as mutual pleasure between Allah and His servants.
