Al-Balad

The City

Al-Balad portrays human life as struggle and challenges the boast that wealth or power can place someone beyond observation. Eyes, speech, and guidance bring responsibility as well as capability. The chapter names a difficult ascent: freeing an enslaved person and feeding an orphan or someone in severe need during hunger. Faith is joined to mutual encouragement in patience and mercy. The closing contrast shows that success depends on moral response rather than proud declarations of spending.
